On the 5th October 2005 at approximately 12:30pm I set out on my epic journey to Cologne using National Express, and The Pride Of Burgundy ferry. It was frankly, a nightmare. I can’t sleep unless it’s quiet, dark and stationary, so knowing that I couldn’t book into the hotel until 2:00pm on the 6th, I steeled myself for a rough night and day. I walked round Cologne, sightseeing like a zombie, until the appointed hour, at which I collapsed into my bed immediately.
I needn’t have worried though, Lance woke me up an hour and a half later to see if I’d found the hotel okay. Four hours before I’d set my alarm to go and meet them at the airport. The little treasure.
